Wole Soyinka, one of Nigeria's topmost playwrights and activists, has advised President Muhammadu Buhari to stop admiring former head of states, General Sani Abacha
- Soyinka in his speech described Abacha as one of the worst dictators that ever lived in Nigeria
- He urged the president to establish a hall of shame for those who have done great harm to the country
Nobel laureate, Wole Soyinka, in his speech at the award ceremony in honour of MKO Abiola and Gani Fawehinmi has advised President Muhammadu Buhari to stop admiring and displaying loyalty to former head of state, late General Sani Abacha.
The national event which took place at Abuja on Tuesday, June 12, was attended by many Nigerian dignitaries and political heroes, Punch reports.

Soyinka described Abacha as Abiola's tormentor, and as such, is not deserving of any honour. In his speech, he wondered why the president chooses to honour Abiola in breath and admire the former military head of states in another. He went on to refer to Abacha as “one of the worst dictators in the history of the country”.
He said that Abacha if he was alive should be in prison for the crime he committed against Nigeria and humanity in general.
Soyinka revealed that in a private meeting with the president, he brought up the issue of a major road in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) that is named after a corrupt leader in an administration that is fighting corruption.
The nobel laureate remarked that although said he was not satisfied with the response he got from Buhari, he resolved to let it pass.

Soyinka urged the president to consider establishing a Hall of shame for those who have wronged the country, in much the same way as he has made a Hall of Fame for the nation’s political giants.
Meanwhile, reported that top Nigerians politicians, royal fathers, businessmen and supporters of the Muhammadu Buhari government attended the posthumous award ceremony for the acclaimed winner of the
June 12, 1993 presidential election, MKO Abiola .
