The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says it will not take the defectors from the APC for granted

- The PDP is currently planning a special NEC meeting to accommodate the defectors

- Kola Ologbondiyan says the PDP is expecting more governors into the party

The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is reportedly planning a special meeting of its National Executive Committee (NEC) to enable it receive defectors from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Punch reports that no date has been fixed for the NEC meeting, but that Kola Ologbondiyan, the party’s national spokesperson, was quoted as saying the PDP caucuses had been notified.

According to Ologbondiyan, none of the defectors would be treated with disdain.

“We are planning a special NEC to welcome the defectors into our midst. We want to welcome them officially to their ‘home’.

“Don’t forget that these men are coming from the National Assembly as senators and members of the House of Representatives. So, we will organise a special NEC to welcome the first set and other NEC meetings will follow as we receive them.

“As we speak, we are expecting some other governors in a matter of days, while some ministers are also talking to us.

“Days of happiness are here with us. As we receive people with joy and excitement, our challenger is mourning and crying in silence.

“That cry will be with them for long because many of their members are still going to depart from their home,” he said.

The report further said PDP wants Nigerians to protect civil rule as it believes that the country’s democracy cannot thrive on vote-buying during elections.

Ologbondiyan said: “Ekiti election was a daylight robbery and Nigerians must resist such perfidy, nobody should be allowed to trample on our rights; our democracy can only thrive if there is freedom of the press.”

We earlier heard report that the All Progressives Congress Party in Ogun disassociated itself from the recent action taken by the Senator representing Ogun Central Senatorial District, Lanre Tejuoso.

The Ogun state APC describing Tejuoso as a former member of the ruling party said it has followed the events of the last few days within the polity with keen interest, particularly as it affected the lawmaker's defection to the opposition party.
