At the 10th anniversary of the NSE Victoria Island branch with the theme, NSE VI at 10: Diligently Creating Nigeria’s Engineering Hub, the President, Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE), Engr.

Adekunle Mokuolu, has said that President Muhammadu Buhari’s Executive Order Five recently signed into law would drive local capacity both intellectual and material.

Mokuolu, agreed that the policy was aimed at focusing on the intellectual property and development especially in the area of local content and how to improve engineering infrastructure. He also said that the policy would reawaken the need to establish more industries in the country, adding that government would take the revival of Ajeokuta Steel Company very serious. “You cannot have a meaningful development without steel.

There is need for reinforcement in the industry, in order to improve steel production in the country,” he added. He noted that the president requires the collective effort of everyone to drive the policy, adding that it was aimed at providing many opportunities for engineers and non-engineers.

He commended the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu and the Minister of Water Resources, Engr. Suleiman Adamu, for their efforts in facilitating the signing of the Executive Order. According to him, engineers should be put in the various ministries that are engineering-based, adding that infrastructural deficit was very huge.

“This branch has been going to schools to re-ignite interests of students in engineering and technology which is the only thing that can develop a country.

In addition, Chief Host, Chairman Nigerian Society of Engineers, VI branch, Engr. Rose Madaki, said that the main objective of the branch was to foster sound engineering practice within the community. “In keeping with the vision of the branch and the leadership style laid by our past leaders, the branch has adopted a more strategic approach in line with global best practice to meet the needs of the community”.

According to Madaki, we were able to achieve several milestones through our partnership with Bank of Industry, CAD Works Nigeria Limited, Bid for Manpower Contract, Maiden Job Fair, Business Incubation and Public Safety.
