El-rufai Blasts Saraki Over Senators' Defection

Governor Nasir El-Rufai accused Bukola Saraki of being the worst Senate leader ever

- The governor accused Saraki of including names of senators who didn't want to defect in his defection list

Kaduna state governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has accused the senate president, Bukola Saraki, of listing some members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) among those who defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) without their permissions.

El-Rufai claimed that some of the senators in the list read by Saraki later came out to say they were not defecting from APC and has no idea why their names were included in the defection list, The Cable reports.

The governor, who spoke in an interview aired on some local radio stations in Kaduna on Thursday, also said the the Senate under the leadership of Bukola Saraki is the worst Nigeria has ever seen.

“We have never had a bad senate leadership like this one by Bukola Saraki. Some people whose names were mentioned among those who decamped said they never authorised it.

“We know those who cannot win elections in their homes. Many of them found themselves in the national assembly by riding on the back of Buhari. Some of them won the election because presidential and parliamentary elections held on the same day.”

El-Rufai also blamed Senators Shehu Sani (Kaduna central), Suleiman Hunkuyi ( Kaduna north) and Danjuma Laah (southern Kaduna) for his inability to complete ongoing projects in his state.

El-Rufai said the senators’ rejection of the $350 million World Bank loan to the state is responsible for the non completion of some projects.

We earlier heard report that President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed his total commitment to the values of democracy, freedom of choice as well as total willingness to work with all members of the National Assembly, irrespective of their political party, for the benefit of the nation.

The president’s statement is in response to the mass defection of some All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmakers to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday, July 24.

President Buhari in his reaction noted that none of the defecting federal lawmakers had any specific grievances against him or the government he leads; neither did he harbour anything against any of them.
